Regarding the surface of the ceiling to which the recess kit is connected, here’s the answer from Bromic tech/corp:

 

Wood being directly connected to the recess kit -  it should be ok but then our suggestion would be to still line it just to be safe  -  you can get aluminum or similar flexible wrapping they use in rooking (called sarking   - assume same wording in US)  -  an example is as per below -  you could wrap on the direct timber in contact and need just to ensure whatever you use is rated to at least +200degF. Thermoseal (or similar)   -  Thermoseal is then not recommended and is instead suggested only and the material used must be temperature checked prior to usage.  Minimum open space cavity requirements then still remain and must be adhered to (in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions).
