Q - My logs have taken on a white looking color? What is this? How can I remove it?

A - The white residue is called “efflorescence” or “blooming”. You may have seen this in brick walls coming form the mortar joints or on sidewalks. It is where the salts in the concrete migrate to the surface of the material.  It is a condition that we cannot control, but it does not affect the integrity of the log.  To remove it, In many cases, merely spraying the area with water will neutralize and eliminate the white. Sometimes additional water spray application or wiping with a damp cloth is needed.
